This week's editor-selected posts center on a wave of vendor model releases — OpenAI's GPT-6 Sol and Luna, Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5, Google's Gemini 3.8 TTS models, and Alibaba's Qwen-Audio-3.1 — alongside continued disclosure that OpenAI's agents sent training and evaluation data to third-party services when they shouldn't have.
OpenAI announced GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna as faster, more affordable models built on advances behind GPT-6 Astra, with API prices for Sol and Luna stated to be 50% lower than GPT-5.6 promotional pricing.
OpenAI said Sol and Luna roll out in ChatGPT Work and Codex for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users, are also available in the API, and that Free and Go users can try Luna in the desktop app.
Today we’re releasing Muse Spark Open, the most capable US open-weight model to date.
Built for coding and agentic work, it excels at long-horizon tasks, complex software engineering, and multi-step reasoning.
Key Model Specs:
→ 816B total / 42B active parameters
→ 1M token context window
→ Natively multimodal across text, image, video, audio
What can large-scale AI models bring to the growing complexity of particle physics?
@CERN and Mistral join forces to explore this question.
The ambition: a single Large Physics Model, trained on billions of simulated collisions. https://t.co/nrdCfcBI3k
Applications are now open for two new Anthropic Fellowships.
STEM Fellows (science and engineering) and Conceptual Reasoning Fellows (philosophy, cognitive science, economics, policy, and law) will spend four months at Anthropic from January 2027, working to help Claude reason well about some of the hardest problems in those fields.
For more information, see the descriptions below. The application deadline is October 28.

New voices. Better accents. And less "checking..."
GPT-Live-1.1 brings these updates to Voice in ChatGPT, Codex, and dots, with new voices in French, German, Hindi, Mexican Spanish, Korean, and Japanese.
Rolling out today to all users. Coming soon to the API. https://t.co/L6K8ZUC1xm
"Anthropic told investors on Wednesday distillation accounted for 5 per cent to 7 per cent of revenue"
If true, and Q2 revenue was $11.5B, then that's more than half a billion dollars spent by other labs to distill Anthropic's models!

We want to support the mathematics community in turning progress in AI into deeper human understanding and new discoveries. To support that goal, we are contributing $5 million to a new Simons Foundation initiative to help mathematicians examine, understand, and build on results produced by AI, including the results we recently published.
The funding, managed and awarded by the @SimonsFdn will support workshops, conferences, and special programs. We will also provide access to our models and computing resources to Simons Foundation-supported researchers.
We’ve committed to having evaluators assess our safety practices. We're in discussions with multiple organizations, and have now given employee-like access to a team from @METR_Evals.
In this post, we describe how we work with third-party evaluators: https://t.co/8CLQnMVg4X
To help make advanced models more accessible, Muse Spark Open is optimized to run on two Apple M5 Ultra Mac Studios with the latest MLX framework.
It also runs on leading inference engines like SGLang, vLLM, TensorRT-LLM, Hugging Face Transformers, llama.cpp, and Unsloth with optimizations for AMD, Apple, Intel, and NVIDIA silicon.
Developers can further customize the model with PyTorch, including TorchTitan for fine-tuning.
SynthID has been named one of @TIME's Best Inventions of 2026.
With over 180 billion images and videos already watermarked, it’s making it easier for people to distinguish AI-generated content from other media → https://t.co/ClIEdQLgV1 https://t.co/STbjqj9iUu
Muse Spark Open is available today through API platforms at Baseten, Fireworks AI, Groq, Modal, Nebius, OpenRouter and Together AI.
Download the weights on Amazon SageMaker AI, Google Cloud Model Garden, Hugging Face, and Microsoft Foundry Models.
Weights are released under the Muse Model License, with limited commercial terms that let many developers use the model for free.

Congrats to @lightseekorg on the impressive TokenSpeed results! 🚀 Great to see Qwen3.8-Flash-Next reaching 685 output tokens/s per user on Nvida GPUs. Excited to see the community unlock more of Qwen’s inference potential!
European businesses are rapidly expanding their use of AI agents. More than half of the AI use among our EU enterprise and business customers now involves these tools, and the number of small business users has grown 8x across the region.
Our latest Economic Research report explores Europe’s shift toward agentic AI—and the opportunity to turn broader adoption into deeper use.

We’re exploring how AI can accelerate health science research.
While AI has made significant breakthroughs in formal sciences like mathematics, health data science depends on imperfect real-world data and consequential choices about cohorts, variables, and causal assumptions.
To explore how AI can assist health researchers, we built a human-led research scaffold powered by Muse Spark 1.3 and Muse Wonder with access to 5M retrospective de-identified electronic health records and publicly available data. A cohort of medical experts used the system to conduct original research, accelerate hypothesis generation, code execution, and manuscript drafting while maintaining full authority over scientific decisions.
Today, we’re sharing 10 research manuscripts produced through this exploration, spanning cardiology, oncology, infectious disease, emergency medicine, and more.
